Sight impairment is for real. Forging iron is also for real. I do both. Low vision definitely effects the practice of blacksmithing. Most of these effects can be minimized by simple ergonomic changes. Raising the work surfaces of forge, anvil and vise helps a lot. Modifying traditional techniques, like hammering at a slower pace or taking more heats per object, helps too. A few critical aspects of blacksmithing are straight-up out of my visual range. Facets at bright heats and finding small pieces in a welding fire are a problem. They require instinct and an I really want to attitude to succeed.
